Ah, freedom!
So Christ has truly set us free. — Galatians 5:1a
We celebrate with food and fireworks on and around the Fourth when I wish we’d celebrate who truly gave us freedom—and that’s Jesus Christ, Son of God.
With a focus on swimming pools and celebrations, we find ourselves blinding (or busying) ourselves to what we truly have with freedom, and that’s eternity with our Savior.
We may lament about our nation and its struggles when we could be taking time to honor our God of all nations with song, worship and praise.
Go swim. Eat picnic food. Wear your red, white and blue tee shirt as you watch the parade or the night sky light up with a tremendous display of astonishing spectacle. Enjoy this. Enjoy all of this.
And do a bit more. Recognize and respond to the fact that you were bound but are now free in Jesus. You were a slave to sin with the destination of hell until the sinless Lamb of God conquered death for you.
Let this freedom in Christ be your cause to both party and praise. Give great thanks and share deep joy. This is a celebration time!
Prayer: Thank you, God, for your Son who sets us free. Amen.
