Be the Blessing
“God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh. — Luke 6:20b-21
Mark Twain asks and answers his own question when he writes, “What are the two most important days of your life? The day you were born, and the day you find out why.”
Why were you born?
If we look at Jesus’ words in Luke 6, we see the answer. We were born to bless others.
The text is correct, and you likely read it correctly. God is the one who blesses—technically. Specifically, God uses you in the blessings.
When we approach this text waiting for God on High to swoop down and wipe away all of our problems, we may have a long wait. God will take away all of our problems when His Son returns and we receive Jesus as Lord in His second coming. Until then, we can let God use us to be a part of the blessings.
Yes, God is all powerful. In this power, God uses those who hear the need to help get His blessings done. Think about it. If more people blessed others, how much poverty would we have? How much hunger would there be? How much sorrow would linger among all of us?
Be an agent of blessings. There are all kinds of poverty out there. There is all sorts of hunger. You won’t take more than a minute to think of someone who is grieving something or someone.
Live why you were born. Be a blessing.
PRAYER: Lord, knock our fear away by taking away the thought that we don’t have enough money or food to share. And if someone is crying and we don’t have enough tissues on hand, let them use our shoulders. Our shirts will dry. Amen.
