Take it to go
Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. — Genesis 12:7-8, NLT
Here time races. I want it to slow down.
If time crawls for you, give me your clock.
Notice there is no question here.
There is no question here with God and Abram, either. There is also no idleness or full stops. After one amazing experience happens, the two are onto the next. This on-the-move action continues in verse 9. There is no rest for the weary. There is also no rest for the wonderful moments.
God says, “You’ve gotta go.” Abram replies, “Yep.”
I get that those of you with normal or slow-paced time move like the Wooly Bear. You want to stop and smell the roses, but Abram plants the bush and keeps going.
Okay, take in the scent of the roses. Yes. Sit. Enjoy. But also be like Abram and me and move, move, move because it is there, in going with God, that you will most likely see God at work again and again and again.
PRAYER: We all need to slow down sometimes, Lord. Make it so (especially for me since no one has yet to offer me their slower-moving time!). Also, help us see that You are never idle. To see and to serve You, we cannot be idle either.
Amen.
