Why you say, “Yes.”
Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. — 2 Peter 1:20-21
What we promise or even just say to each other in church can be heartfelt, tender, and beautiful.
And we never knew we were going to say it until the words spill from our lips.
In the moment, and, above all, with the influence of the Holy Spirit alive and so well within us, we make commitments, offerings, suggestions and pledges we never planned to say or make.
But there they are.
In 2 Peter, we realize it isn’t just a preacher behind a pulpit who is moved divinely. We stand face to face with the widow after the funeral and share how we will care for her. We agree to serving on a committee without thinking it through. We walk with the Christian Education director after worship and agree to teaching when the idea of teaching, while it may have been somewhere in the back of our minds, just pops out.
The prophets Peter speaks of were indeed moved by the Holy Spirit. This same Holy Spirit moves through you. Keep saying yes when the Spirit moves you and you will be thankful not regretful.
PRAYER: Dear Holy Spirit, keep talking through my lips. And yes, thank you in advance. Amen.
