Yes! One great boss? Glorious!
Yes! One great boss? Glorious!
I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. —John 17:4
You caught your boss’s vision. The one you work (or worked) for inspired you. Often, he or she aligned you. Having a great boss isn’t always the case, but most of us are gifted with at least one great boss at some point or points in our adult working lives.
God being Jesus’ boss? Eh, this is an image that shouldn’t go beyond this paragraph. Yes, God IS God, but to say Jesus works for God in some Father & Son business does not fully define the relationship that cannot be fully defined—at least on this side of heaven.
We do get glimpses of the Father and Son, however. John 17:4 is a part of a prayer Jesus shares with His Father about His upcoming homecoming. Here Jesus shares with His Father what He has done on earth. Specifically, Jesus is talking about the work He’s been given to do which has brought glory to God.
Jesus’ prayer calls and inspires us to look at the work we have done and the work we will you do not begrudgingly, but beautifully. This work is not painful but poignant and powerful. And joyful. Yes, joyful is in there, too.
To bring glory to God can feel like a tall order, a near impossible task. Is it, though? Is it too challenging for us to put God ahead of our agendas and our limits?
You know the answer to the last question. Giving God glory through what we do can be done one step at a time, one day at a time.
PRAYER: We pray, dear Faher, that we give you glory through the work you call us to do. Amen.
