Building your temple
But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. — John 2:21
“I have a few questions for you,” Kevin asks when I see him on site yesterday.
I do not respond with, “Oh, good!” Instead, it’s a hollow, “Oh, really?”
Kevin is the electrician working on the addition to our house.
Ah, Kevin. Our first conversations were fun.
Now, five months later, I find Kevin’s latest questions to be daunting. For example, I didn’t know I needed a light switch by a side door. Also, I never thought about overhead lighting in an area that used to be the kitchen.
I did love design. The thrill of fulfilling the dream. Seeing the plans actualized.
That’s now past tense. In the place called decision overload, I ask, “How many more questions need my answers?”
Here’s the truth. Building temples isn’t easy in the long haul.
That Jesus Himself IS the temple? Hallelujah! Rather than be lost in where to put a light switch or overhead light, we can follow this temple, His body, which is now seated at the right hand of God.
PRAYER:
You are the temple, dear Jesus. The decisions we make can be found in the old and hopefully familiar hymn, “I have decided to follow Jesus.”
Amen.
We say again. Amen.
