Jesus’ question for you
Jesus’ questions for you
He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”
They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.”
“What things?” Jesus asked. — Luke 24:17-19
Jesus questions Cleopas and his unnamed traveling partner just as Jesus questions us. The reason for this questioning is not so the divine Son of God in human form knows more about us (because the divine Son of God knows more about us then we know about who we are). The reason Jesus questions us enables us to know more about not just how we are, but who we are.
This scripture is your scripture when you imagine Jesus asking you about the things in our week, or even our day.
Jesus may not actually speak to you as He does in this text, but this doesn’t stop the One who loves you from somehow asking you to explain more.
When you’re crestfallen like Cleopas, allow your heart to hear Jesus asking the questions, “What things? What is upsetting you?”
His questions let you answer. Your answer, when shared out loud or in silence, draws you closer to Jesus. The two on the Road to Emmaus will tell you that being closer to Jesus is a good thing. Actually, it’s a very, very good thing.
Imagine Jesus asking you a question, or sense Jesus asking you a question because yes, it’s a very, very good thing.
PRAYER: Jesus, help me be open enough to imagine You wanting to ask me a question, and then give me the faith to answer. Amen.
