Making Peace
So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy. —John 16:22
To say no one can rob you of joy? Wow! This IS a powerful, remarkable, and tremendous gift. This gift is ours when we know Jesus.
John 16:22 is a part of a conversation Jesus has with His disciples. Here, the Son of God shares with His tightly woven group what they will need to know about Him. Specifically, He is telling the twelve about His approaching death and resurrection.
They don’t understand this completely.
As makers of peace however, we can. Even though Jesus is always present to us, we can feel an absence of Jesus when something in our lives is not peaceful.
In a moment of deep sorrow, acute grief or walloping tragedy, it may seem for a moment that Jesus isn’t there. But those who know of Jesus’ resurrection have the greatest gift, and it is this: we will see Jesus. He is and will be with us always, forever and forever. This is our greatest joy, and yes, no one can rob us of this.
PRAYER: We rejoice now. We will rejoice again because You, Jesus, are not far. You are never, ever far. For this we celebrate again and again the peace we make and the peace we share. Amen.
