Putin: Melt the bully with the bombs
The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! — Psalm 46:6
“I have been given a couple of goals to achieve through God,” the writer of Psalm 46 is thinking when the psalm comes into formation. No one knows the order or the priority of these goals but one of them is very clear: convince the people that God is all powerful.
We shouldn’t need this info more than a couple of times, but the Old Testament (and particularly the Psalms) make it abundantly clear that God IS powerful. We are not.
We are like God though. Built in the Divine’s imagine, we have dominion over the birds of the sky. Creatures on the land and in the water are in our care, too. And we build things. We also make all kinds of decisions. Some are good. Others lead nations to chaos where kingdoms crumble.
What we should never forget, the psalmist says, is that God’s voice thunders. This voice—HIS voice—alone melts the earth. As we look at what Russia is doing within the Ukraine today, we are wise when we speak in prayer to God through the chaos and the crumbling. May our voices in prayer tap into the Voice that thunders so that the need for control in the Ukraine melts in the bully with the bombs.
PRAYER: Melt Putin enough so that he sees who is in control, dear God. May Your voice that thunders bring peace in quick time. Amen.
