Roar!
Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. When he got there, he called out in anguish, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?”— Daniel 6:19-20
Once the stone that had shut Daniel into the den was opened, the bedtime buddy of all those lions could have let out a roar.
Or he might have let out a roar.
Okay. I want him to let out a roar.
I want Daniel to roar. I want Daniel to roar because it isn’t just Daniel who wins life over death. God wins every time one of His followers is open and brave enough to embrace even a little of the faith Daniel showed.
In this nearly impossible, has-this-really-happened moment where this faithful follower is discovered not just alive but well, Daniel does speak. He says, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty (verses 21b, 22).”
The king’s number one who went through trickery, rivalry, jealousy, and a bogus law that, when carried out, should have killed him, is found innocent. Innocent!
A cheer of “Hooray!” is not enough. This should get a roar!
Daniel did it. He wins for himself. The one without even a scratch on him that morning would agree the greater win is that, through Daniel, God shows us what we can (and should) do, which is pray through every hardship, hurt, and heartbreak.
So, do a roar for God? For Daniel?
Say yes.
PRAYER: God, hear us roar for Daniel. Hear us roar for You. Amen.
