Breaking Butterflies
When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. — Luke 4:16
Have you wondered if Jesus had butterflies before he spoke? We can be nervous before a big speech or a talk before a crowd, but Jesus? It’s unlikely the carpenter’s son, the miracle healer, prophetic teacher and self-proclaimed Son of God ever lacked confidence in what he was about to say.
When we talk of Jesus, can we say the same thing? Do we speak with confidence?
Some of may answer yes, we do speak with confidence. More of us, however, may have a moment of hesitation. This moment of pause isn’t because we are uncertain of our Savior. Instead, a good number of us hold back for a moment because we “just want to get it right” or, gulp, honestly, we just don’t think we can do it.
We are living in a sensitive, often shattered world. Feelings get hurt easily in some circles. Offending someone seems easy these days.
If we think about this, these are all the more reasons to share Jesus and Scripture today. As Jesus stood up to read the Scriptures in his hometown synagogue, I encourage all of us to speak up and share the Jesus and the Scriptures we know without a moment of reservation.
PRAYER: Help me break those butterflies in my stomach, dear Jesus. With love, comfort and confidence, may I speak of who You. Amen.
